Gov. signs executive order to temporarily closes public places

Starting today, Monday, at 3 p.m. restaurants and bars in Michigan will temporarily be closed to help control the spread of the coronavirus. There is an exception for restaurant delivery and carry-out services

Governor Whitmar signed the executive order todayand it applies to restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, bars, clubs, theatres, indoor/outdoor performance venues, fitness centers, spas, casinos, etc.

It does not apply to office buildings, grocery stores, pharmacies, drug stores, health care facilities, residential care facilities or warehouse and distribution centers.

Businesses offering food deliveries, drive-through or carry options are encouraged to use precautions while serving the public such as social distancing. Restaurants may allow five people inside at a time to pick up orders as long as they stay six feet apart from each other.

“This disease is a challenge unlike any we’ve experienced in our lifetimes,” said Governor Whitmer, according to the press release.

She said practicing social distancing and taking aggressive actions now can help mitigate the spread of the virus and reduce the risk of overwhelming the health care system.

Other states have also implemented similar measures such as Washington, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

The executive order is in effect until March 30.
