State lifts “avoid contact” order for Pine River following oil spill

Vishahu

The state has lifted an “avoid contact” order for the Pine River and downstream waterways impacted by an oil spill last week.

State officials issued an “avoid contact” order last week following an oil spill from a residential property. The spill ran downstream for more than twenty miles between Gratiot and Midland counties.

Officials said a property owner in St. Louis Michigan appears to have spilled fluid from a transformer into the water.

Cleanup efforts are expected to conclude this week, according to a press release from Gratiot County.

State officials said they are  continuing to review information before deciding whether or not to press charges against the resident responsible for the spill.
