State lawmakers are debating a plan to get rid of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s ability to issue emergency rules related to vaping.

The governor’s administration recently issued emergency rules to ban the sale of flavored nicotine vaping products in the state.

A new bill would prevent the Department of Health and Human Services from issuing any rules that restrict vaping products.

Republican Representative Michael Webber chairs a committee that heard testimony on the bill. He says the ban on flavored vaping products is a big issue for his constituents.

“We had more emails in the month of September on that than we had on the budget. So it’s a lot of folks who are saying this is the way I was able to stop smoking.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says the ban is necessary to protect young people from the health risks of vaping.
