Damage is being assessed in portions of Tuscola and Saginaw County after weekend flooding impacted roads and home across the region.
Officials say flooding is widespread across the city of Frankenmuth. Other flooding has been reported in Vassar and Birch Run.
Bridget Smith is the Frankenmuth City Manager. She said crews are going around and checking drains to manage any clogging. She said the city has provided dumpsters for residents.
“We’re still hearing from residents. Our big concern was how to help our residents dispose of trash from their flooded basements and homes.”
Smith said somewhere between four to seven inches of rainfall fell in a short period of time, overwhelming city drainage systems.
She said most of the water has receded - but it impacted much of the city.
“Areas of town that traditionally have not had problems with water in their basements or with water pooling on the ground or in the streets - it was everywhere.”
Paul Moore is the Village Manager for Birch Run. He said the Emergency Management Division of Saginaw County wants to know the extent of residential damage. Residents of both Saginaw and Tuscola county have been asked to fill out damage assessment surveys.
“I think the end - what they are trying to do - is determine if the level is at where they can request federal aid for this area.”
Moore said the village and township are also providing dumpsters to help people get rid of trash from their flooded homes.
