A Michigan non-profit has filed a brief in a case challenging a Wisconsin diversion of Lake Michigan water.
"For Love of Water", or "FLOW" submitted an amicus brief this week in support of a case brought by several Wisconsin nonprofits against the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
That agency approved the city of Racine’s request to divert 7 million gallons of Lake Michigan water per day.
More than 80% of the water would go to a plant owned by electronics corporation Foxconn. The lawsuit says diversions under the compact must be for public use.
In a press release, FLOW said “the proposed diversion raises troubling legal questions.”
The Wisconsin DNR would not comment on the pending litigation.
