Four new wolves brought to Isle Royale National Park

MNRF Communications

Four new wolves have been brought to Isle Royale National Park by way of Canada.

The wolves are part of the ongoing wolf-relocation effort that is expected to bring between 20-30 wolves to the island.

Wolves are being brought over to help improve the health of the island ecosystem.

Liz Valencia is with the Isle Royale National Park.

“We had a male and a female from the mainland and then two males from Michipicoten Provincial Park.”

Valencia said the park will stop bringing wolves to the island for the season.

“Now there will be a total of eight. There were two there before the project started, a male and a female, and then two females who are still there from the falls introduction, and then these four new wolves. So four males and four females.”

Valencia said Park Officials worked directly with Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to bring the wolves to the island.
