Kidde fire extinguishers are being recalled from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico after learning their extinguishers with plastic handles pose a hazard.
There are nearly 38 million Kidde units in the US. Officials say they can become clogged and require an excessive amount of force to discharge. The nozzle can also detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.
One death was reported in 2014 when firefighters couldn’t get the extinguisher to work to put out a car fire.
There have been nearly 400 reports of extinguishers not working, resulting in 16 injuries, and 91 reports of property damage.
