The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has extended a deadline for medical providers serving Michigan Medicaid beneficiaries to enroll in the Michigan Medicaid program.

The enrollment requirement is in response to federal regulations stemming from the Affordable Care Act.  Providers will need to enroll through the Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System or CHAMPS to avoid missing out on payments from their patients.

The response from providers has been overwhelming. The implementation deadlines of March 1st for providers, and May 1st for prescribers have been extended for an undisclosed period of time.

Erica Quealy is a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

“We are very grateful and thankful for the providers who are already taking action on this enrollment process, and now looking at the volume and overwhelming response we have seen we are extending the deadline to enroll”

Quealy stressed that even though the deadline has been extended, there is still an urgency to enroll.

“Even though we have granted this extension, there is still a need and an urgency for enrollment in order to avoid any interruptions in services to the patients that they serve.”
