Nearly $3 million in grants were awarded Thursday to STEM programs across Michigan.
34 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics programs will receive funding, including programs in Petoskey, Midland, and Genesee County.
The grants will go to intermediate school districts, universities, and STEM providers.
The grants were awarded through Governor Snyder’s MiSTEM advisory council.
Bill DiSessa is with the Michigan Department of Education.
“We actually had almost 135 applications from around the state seeking more than 10 million dollars.”
DiSessa said each STEM program received up to 100-thousand dollars.
He said the grants are part of the state’s goal of being a top ten education state in ten years.
