The Caro psychiatric hospital in Tuscola County will receive $115 million dollars for an expansion and renovations.

Officials say the hospital will be remodeled because of many repairs needed to the 104 year old building.

State Representative Ned Canfield says the newly remodeled center will add jobs to the community.

“So this is absolutely huge,so now we went from thinking we we’re going to lose the Caro Center, to having a building program in the Caro community, that’s going to bring perhaps 100 more jobs just in the Caro Center.”

Canfield says this is a win for Caro, because if the Caro Center was to move, Tuscola County would be hurt financially.

“Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation indicated that we would lose about $53 million annually if the facility was removed from Caro.”

Officials say they will decide when construction will start in October, after the 2018 budget is set finalized.
