The second 100 percent renewable factory in the nation controlled by the SC Johnson Company is now located in Bay City.

The factory has been in Bay City for twenty years, and produces plastic ziploc bags.

It is the fourth of SC Johnson’s factories worldwide to achieve one hundred percent renewable energy running the plant.

Kelly Semrau is the Senior Vice President for the SC Johnson Company. She said the Bay City plant is part of a company wide trend.

“We have reduced our greenhouse gases by more than 50 percent and one third of our energy usage now comes from renewable sources. We’ve got 27 plants around the globe. We’re not stopping at Bay City, we’re going to keep going.”

Semrau said at the company’s headquarters in Wisconsin they installed wind turbines.

“In Bay City we did not buy or build wind turbines there. We’re buying wind energy from public utilities in Michigan.”

Semrau says the company will continue to push for more renewable energy at their factories.
