An environmental advocacy organization has released it’s latest report card on Governor Rick Snyder’s environmental performance.

The report card, which comes from the Michigan League for Conservation Voters, gives the Governor a smattering of middling grades, a ‘D+’ for air quality, an ‘F’ for Flint, and a singular ‘A’ for his work on renewable energy.

Eric Keller is with the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. He said for renewable energy the Governor scored an ‘A.’

“That’s because he was one of the main people responsible for passing a bipartisan, nationally recognized energy policy last year.”

Keller said the report card looked at seven categories from Waste and Recycling to Use of Public Lands.

“We really looked at the different actions the administration took. Obviously the Governor deserves a failing grade for the Flint Water Crisis. But there are several other things the Governor has done over the past two years that show an opportunity.”

Keller said that opportunity has a lot to do with how Snyder will work to protect state interests as federal regulations shift.

“The Trump Administrations in slashing environmental protections give the Governor the opportunity to make sure he’s taking decisive action as our state's chief executive to secure health for our communities and natural resources, defending responsible environmental standards.”

Keller said he hopes the report card helps to hold the Governor accountable for his performance and pushes him to do better.

The Governor’s Office was not immediately available for comment.
