CMU will allow students and faculty to work remotely during fall semester

Central Michigan Unviersity

The Central Michigan University president spoke on Tuesday about the school’s decision to shorten the fall semester in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Classes will begin on August 17th and end on November 25th to reduce the number of students traveling home and then returning after the Thanksgiving holiday.

CMU President Bob Davies said the move will reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 on campus.

“This really avoids students, faculty, and staff traveling back and forth specifically and especially over Thanksgiving break which will limit the potential exposure and spread of COVID-19.”

Davies said students, and faculty will have the opportunity to stay online during the semester.

“We know that some faculty and staff for that matter will choose to go remote for their work and learning and teaching environments.”

Davies said allowing students and teachers to decide to go remote will reduce person-to-person contact during the semester.

He said a decision has not yet been made for how the Spring semester will be held.
