Test-Free Admissions option headed to Alma College

Alma College

Alma College has announced it’s starting a new admissions program that will allow students to apply without their ACT or SAT scores.

The college will begin offering a test-free admissions track for students in the fall of 2020. Instead of submitting A-C-T or S-A-T scores, students will be allowed to interview with college officials to evaluate their high school career and predict how they’ll succeed in college.

Amanda Slenski is the vice president of admissions at Alma College.

“For some students a test score is not a best indicator for them in terms of their success in college. It is also just the result of one day, one time, one exam. We know for many students that is not the best representation of their entire high school career.”

Slenski says the test-free option will allow students to present their community service, student leadership, and academic talents in ways that a test score wouldn’t.

Slenski says the test-free admissions option is being used at around one-thousand colleges nationwide. Beginning with the 2020 incoming class, students will be able to choose the test-free track if they have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
