Lake Superior State University is trying a new tool in the battle for international students. Starting this fall, the university will implement a worldwide one-rate tuition.
International students were originally expected to pay more than 700 dollars a credit hour. Now, all students will pay 485 a credit hour.
The new rate will save international students over five thousand dollars a year.
Kellie Greener is director of marketing and communications at LSSU.
“One of the things that we’re hoping is that we’ll garner some more international interest at Lake State. We have a lower international population, but we’ve seen an increase in net tuition revenue from our North American one rate, so we decided to expand it worldwide.”
Greener said LSSU was the first university to implement a one-rate tuition for any student in North America in 2015. Now, she said, they’re the first to offer a worldwide rate.
