Michigan State Board of Trustees hold first formal meeting with Engler

Michigan State University’s major governing body held its first official public meeting with interim president John Engler today.

Students said they were not about to let Engler and the Board of Trustees forget that they don’t want them there.

The Board and Engler tried to keep the meeting ‘business as usual’. Though several members acknowledged calls by students and faculty to step down.

At the end of the meeting, several students stood up with posters condemning the board and Engler. Natalie Rogers is a sophomore from Canton. She stood in front of the board at the end of the meeting and demanded they listen to her speech.

“We condemn the lack of functional institutions to investigate instances of sexual misconduct, prevent instances of sexual assault, and to support the survivors.”

Engler was recently appointed by the Board of Trustees to lead the school amid a tumultuous time. The school faces several investigations over how it has handled sexual assault complaints.
