Budget cuts in schools can make it difficult for teachers to get supplies they need. Now, there is relief for a music and an art teacher who have been covering the bill themselves.

Two teachers at Carrollton Elementary School in Saginaw County split $15,000 in grant money to buy new musical instruments, and art supplies.

Chris Bowen teaches art. He said the budget he receives from the school allows him to buy the basics: pencils, paper, erasers, and not much else.

“With this grant I’m able to purchase much more than that including some extra materials that we don’t get to do. For example, I got some printmaking supplies and that’s not something I do a lot in here. I’m kind of excited for my students to even have some new opportunities ahead of them with this grant”.

The school’s music teacher Emily Williamson said she plans on using the grant to replace rundown, broken equipment.
