State education officials are seeking public comment on new school accountability measures.

The Michigan Department of Education says they will make information on things like college and career readiness and school climate and culture easy to access on what they call a ‘transparency dashboard.’

Bill DiSessa is with the Department.

“The primary metrics will describe school performance areas that are most critical for parents to understand. They will also meet the needs of a federally required reporting system allowing Michigan to have one accountability system.”

DiSessa said the dashboard would be an easy way to hold schools accountable and to measure school success.

“The idea is for this transparency dashboard to be something easily understandable and easy to navigate for parents because that is the particular audience this dashboard is for.”

Disessa said the dashboard will be fully operational in the Spring of 2018.
