The Traverse City Intermediate School District has received state grant funding to improve career planning.

Three districts shared a one million dollar grant from the Michigan Department of Education to expand career counseling across the state.

Bill DiSessa is a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Education.

“Part of the effort is to develop outreach to educate students about their CTE options and really connect with students to provide related services, even compile data on student placement for reporting in June of 2018.”

DiSessa said the grants will help educate Michigan workers so they can fill career needs within the state.

“This is another step to release these grant funds to these three districts to help them hire career counselors and also come up with some programs and strategies for CTE career awareness and pathways for these students to make them career or college ready.”

Traverse City will receive roughly 150 thousand dollars from the grant.

DiSessa says the funding is part of an initiative to increase career and college readiness across the state.

Other grant-winning school districts include Wayne and Marquette-Alger.
