Michigan has a new tool in effort to raise awareness of human trafficking. A new video teaches healthcare professionals the signs when a person may be a trafficking victim.
The Michigan attorney general’s office estimates most trafficking victims come into contact with medical professionals. They said those medical personnel have the potential to make an impact if they are able to immediately identify the signs of human trafficking.
The video titled Making the Invisible Visible features local and federal law enforcement, members of the medical community, former human trafficking victims, and Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette.
In a written statement, Schuette said public awareness is a great first step, but helping doctors and nurses identify the signs of human trafficking is another key step in helping victims.
