Small businesses in Michigan will receive a state fund for coronavirus recovery efforts.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced June 15 they will grant 299 small businesses state-wide nearly $1million.
Michele Wildman, Senior Vice President for Community Development at the MEDC, said they’re always looking for ways to assist small businesses. “We’re always working with, in particular… our local partners to try to help provide relief to make sure they continue to thrive.”
Mt. Pleasant will receive $48,000 for 22 small businesses. Wildman said the application, submitted by the Middle Michigan Development Corporation, identified that the support would help to retain 152 jobs.
The following small businesses will receive $2,500 each: Downtown Drugs, GreenTree Cooperative Grocery, Headliners, Marty’s Bar, Off-Broadway Performing Arts, Painted Turtle Studio, Rubbles Bar, and Trillium FIne Clothing.
The following small businesses will receive $2,000 each: Brass Cafe and Saloon, Courtney Jerome Media, Das Atemhaus Yoga Studio, Downstairs Salon, Gray’s Furniture & Boutique, Guys & Dolls Photography, Hall of Heroes, Kerr Law, Millie’s Tailor Shop, Motorless Motion, Norm’s Flower Petal, Pisanello’s Pizza, Poppy & Pearl Boutique Salon, and Valley Travel.
Wildman said they hope this will allow small businesses to continue to be a critical part of downtown and commercial corridors.
The MEDC prioritized funds for low to moderate income business owners. Wildman said about two-thirds of the businesses awarded identified as such.
