One Michigan retailer is ramping up hiring at the same time many people are home without work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kroger food store chain is looking to hire as many as 2,000 people in Michigan, with about 1,000 already brought on board in recent weeks. Rachel Hurst is corporate affairs manager with Kroger of Michigan. She said the company’s need may continue to grow.

“We always hire on a part-time basis, but several of our part-time staff are working full-time hours right now with the need to keep up with the demand from the consumers.”

Hurst said Kroger is working through those applications quickly, with the process averaging less than 72 hours for new hires.
