US to levy tariffs against turkish cherry exporters

The Federal Government will levy tariffs against Turkey. It’s meant to offset price differences for tart cherries.

For years, cherry growers in Michigan have complained about cheap Turkish tart cherries taking over the market.

Some Turkish cherry products sell for half the price of domestic ones.

Now the Federal Government is going to charge exporters in Turkey to balance the price.

Some will have to pay up to 7 times their normal rate to sell products in the U-S.

Nels Valiquette is the C-F-O of ‘Cherries R Us.’

He says domestic cherry growers have been trying to get these tariffs for years.

“The tart cherry industry here in the United States is no longer just going to stand by and allow them to take away market share from us.”
