U-S cherry farmers filed a legal case against the country of Turkey Tuesday.
Farmers say they’ve been undercut by cheap imports for years.
U-S cherry growers say Turkey subsidizes their cherries so much that they can sell them for half the price of domestic ones in some cases.
Don Gregory is a cherry farmer from Leelanau County.
He says they’ve already spent two-million dollars just to get the case started.
“We’re in a life or death situation when it comes to dried cherries in the United States.”
Now Gregory says they’re waiting for the Department of Commerce to take up the case.
If they do, the Federal Government could levy tariffs to offset the price difference.
