Some Michigan companies that employ out-of-state workers may soon get a state tax incentive for those workers. A bill to do that is a procedural vote away from the governor’s desk.

In a former version of the bill, only businesses in border counties received the benefit – but that provision was removed before final votes.

Democratic Representative Donna Lasinski;

“I am here to invest in Michigan workers. I’m here to invest in Michigan. Michigan employment creators. We need to invest in our workers, in our training programs, in our state, in our skilled trades”

The incentive would be for businesses that have at least 50-percent of their employees living in Michigan. Supporters say this helps Michigan companies that can’t find in-state employees.
