The Michigan Attorney General is suing one of the state’s largest retail propane distributors.

Bill Schuette has sued AmeriGas twice in the past four years.

The latest suit accuses the company of violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act.

Schuette said AmeriGas engaged in price gouging, allowed customers to run out of propane, and kept refund money that should have gone to customers.

Megan Hawthorne is a spokesperson for the AG’s office.

“We received numerous complaints from residents about things like excessive pricing and things like that and so when that happens an investigation was undertaken and the result of that is this lawsuit.”

Hawthorne said some violations come from the previous settlement in 2014.

She said that settlement resulted in over 500-thousand dollars in consumer relief, and the hope is to provide relief for consumers again.

The Attorney General is awaiting a response from AmeriGas.
