Michiganders in the Upper Peninsula could be seeing a refund on their electric bills after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ruled last week that Wisconsin Electric Corporation overcharged customers by roughly 23 million dollars.

FERC ruled that when the Wisconsin Electric Corporation turned on the Presque Isle power plant, which was only used during energy use spike, it overcharged customers.

Andrea Bitely works for Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who came out in favor of the decision.

“The group that oversees power transmission throughout Michigan and a number of other states now has 45 days to see how much money should be refunded to northern Michigan residents.”

Amy Jahns is a representative for the Wisconsin Electric Corporation. She says they are reviewing the order.

“We will work closely with the commission's office of enforcement for a conclusion of the matters referred to that office.”

Bitely says the Attorney General believes the full 23 million dollars should be refunded.
