Early voting signs in the City of Midland on Aug. 4, 2024.

WCMU is closely covering the 35th state Senate district special election. The district includes the cities of Saginaw, Bay City and Midland and the greater Tri-Cities metro area of 270,000 residents. The race has the potential to alter the balance of power in Lansing. Control of the state Senate hangs in the balance, with the chamber currently holding a 19-18 Democratic majority.

The election results will determine the makeup of the legislature working with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in the final months of her tenure. The race is considered to be a toss-up. Primary elections will be held on Feb. 3, followed by a general election on May 5.

During this special election season, WCMU wants listeners and readers to help us guide our coverage by you telling us directly what issues matters most to them going into this special election cycle.

Your responses will help guide our coverage. WCMU will ask the candidates important questions and write issue-focused stories, based on what you tell us. We can’t do our election coverage alone. We want you, the public, to have a say in local public radio coverage.

Here’s What You Can Do:

· Send us an email or voice memo with your election coverage suggestions to: News@WCMU.org

· Or fill out the short form below.

The deadline to submit your feedback is Friday, Jan. 23 at 11:59 p.m.
