Bringing mental health services "under one roof" in Northern Michigan starts with request for $5 million in ARPA funding

A public-private partnership in Grand Traverse County is working to improve mental health services. The group has requested five-million dollars in CARES act funding to develop a new Center for mental health.

Munson Healthcare, the Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority, and community partners have filed a proposal with Grand Traverse County asking for five million dollars in American Rescue Plan Funding for a new Mental Wellness center.

Megan Brown with Munson says the funding would go toward the first phase of the project: bringing existing services together into one building.

“Having mental health, substance abuse, and crisis services under one roof, we believe will be a very efficient, effective way to coordinate a response for those who need these services.”

Brown says phase one is expected to be completed next year. Phases two and three will expand diagnostic and preventive care and support programs the facility offers.
