A new bike trail in Boyne City is just what Northern Michigan cyclists were looking for

The Boyne Forest Trail offers over fifteen miles of beginner and intermediate trails.

The new "Dare ‘Ya" trail is giving advanced cyclists in the area a chance to show off their skills.

“A lot of these newer riders five, you know, eight years ago have progressed their skills to now there’s a need in the community to have trails that are of a higher skill level,” owner of North Country Cycle Mike Corteright said.

The advanced trail has jumps, rollers, and berms, and it has caught the attention of cyclists from across Michigan.

“People were driving from Grand Rapids, Cadillac just for the day to come and check out these trails,” Corteright said.

The Top of Michigan Mountain Bike Association began building trails over ten years ago.

TOMMBA raised money for "Dare ‘Ya" for a year and there will be two more trails like it coming later this year.

“This has filled the void for the advanced trails that our community has needed for a couple years now,” Corteright said. “It’s been overwhelmingly positive people are really enjoying it.”

Before "Dare ‘Ya" was built, advanced cyclists would have to travel for more difficult trails.

“We used to have to travel to the U.P. or hours away, at least four hours away, to get trails like this,” Corteright said. “Now we can ride from the shop to these trails which is very cool that we’re able to do that now.”
