Volunteers work to rescue dog trapped on Clare county island

Animal control say emaciated dog has been trapped for 12 days

Clare county animal control is asking for the public's help to capture a dog that is stranded on a small island on Cranberry Lake northeast of the city of Harrison.

In a Facebook post, they say Zaria, a brown and white Great Dane yes went missing on 8/18

The animal shelter said Tuesday on its Facebook page that officials had spotted the dog using a drone, but then lost track of her again. They discontinued the search because they were concerned about stressing the emaciated animal.

Animal control officers say they are working today to built a makeshift bridge to an open area of the island where they will set a live trap. If that doesn't work, they are planning to use a team of volunteers on Thursday to go to the island and try to capture the dog.

Anyone interested in helping can volunteer through the Clare county Animal Shelter Facebook page
