Nessel was invited to Alpena by Democrat Marie Fielder, a candidate for the 106th house district.
With an event turnout of over 40 individuals at the Nucleus Lounge, Nessel answered voters’ questions and concerns. She talked about her continued fights with Enbridge Energy and domestic terrorism. Nessel says her latest project is a task force against elder abuse.
"The laws really are not strict enough right now, in terms of a probate court judge having to respect your wishes, as opposed to appointing somebody that you've never even met before.”
Nessel also says she’s working on bringing expungement clinics to northern Michigan, including Alpena. They would allow residents with criminal records the opportunity to regain their driver’s licenses.
"I know so many people who made that one mistake, that one stupid mistake years ago, never made it again," Nessel said. "I'm not minimizing that as a criminal offense. I'm just saying you had one, three decades ago. That's enough, it's time to be able to get your record cleared up so that it's not holding you back any longer."
