2020 WCMU Boot Camp
WCMU Public Radio, in partnership with the CMU Department of Journalism, the Traverse City Record Eagle, the Midland Daily News, The Alpena News, the Huron Daily Tribune and the Cadillac News, will offer selected students a paid summer 2020 internship, in which they will produce broadcast stories for WCMU, print stories for the newspaper, and web content for both. To apply for these internships, CMU students are required to apply to and attend a day long "boot camp" on February 7, 2020.
Who: CMU students, by application only
When: February 7, 2020, 9:00am-5:00pm
Where: Journalism labs, 4th floor, Moore Hall
What: Day long intensive journalism training / Intern selection event. We will cover writing, delivery, interviewing, and story development.
Why: The goal is two-fold: To provide a unique training experience, and to evaluate participants for placement in our summer internship program
Following the Boot Camp, students selected to continue on with the intership will spend the first two weeks of the internship in Mt Pleasant, getting experience using recording equipment and writing for radio. For the rest of the summer, interns will be based at the newspaper office to which they are assigned.
WCMU and its partners will provide office space, work equipment, training and supervision. Students are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
This is the second year of an exciting and growing program. It’s one of the only collaborations of its type available to students at Central Michigan University, aimed at providing comprehensive training and daily experience in all aspects of journalism.
