Governor Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed another effort by the Legislature to put new restrictions on her emergency powers.

One of the bills would outlaw public health orders that would call a halt to this year’s high school commencement ceremonies.

Whitmer did not hold back in her veto letters. In one, she called the Republican-led Legislature’s efforts to restrain her administration’s COVID-19 powers “half-baked and punchless". In another, Whitmer said the resolution was “a solution in search of a problem” as gathering restrictions are being lifted. Whitmer added, as a personal note, that she’s looking forward to her daughter’s high school graduation ceremony.
