A Traverse City based group has begun collecting signatures on a petition to recall their state representative.

In May, Larry Inman was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of extortion, bribery, and lying to the FBI.

Since then the representative has resisted calls for his resignation.

Kaitlin Flynn is the campaign manager for the Recall Inman committee. She said the group began collecting signatures this week.

“We’re barely 48 hours in and we already have hundreds of signatures,” Flynn said.

Flynn said the group has 60 days to collect roughly 12,000 signatures. That would trigger a recall election in May.

According to Flynn, it has not been difficult to collect signatures.

“Our volunteers rarely even have to get through ‘Hi, I’m with the Inman recall campaign’ and then after that folks are ‘ok, great, let me sign.’ The community are clearly behind us on this issue,” she said.

A spokesperson for Inman did not respond to our request for comment.
