Some of the newest entries in the Democratic presidential field are already targeting the battleground state of Michigan Tuesday.
In 2016, President Trump won the state by a razor-thin margin.
Trump won Michigan, and indeed the White House itself by vowing to bring manufacturing jobs back to middle-class workers he said had been forgotten.
Democratic presidential candidates say that won’t happen again.
New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand came here to tape a town hall meeting near Detroit.
“These are the places that very much felt left behind in the last election…that they didn’t hear their stories being talked about enough. And so they didn’t feel like the Democrats were going to help them.”
Democrat Beto O’Rourke was also on the campaign trail in-and-around Detroit pledging to make the right to unionize workers a part of any future trade deal.
President Trump plans a rally in Michigan at the end of the month.
