Governor Snyder had to replace one of his appointees to the Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority.

The authority will oversee the construction and operation of a tunnel for a new oil pipeline in the straits.

Democrat Geno Alessandrini from the Michigan Laborers District Council resigned the post just a day after being appointed.

Ari Adler, a spokesman for Governor Snyder, says the governor didn’t ask for the resignation.

“And so he did resign of his own free will and he said that he was stepping aside for personal reasons, and that’s really all we have on that.”

Alessandrini was replaced by a Republican.

The authority is now made up of two Republicans and one Democrat.

They will hold their first meeting in Saint Ignace on December 19th.
