Governor Snyder made some powerful appointments Friday. The governor filled the five seats of the Medical Marijuana Licensing Board.

The board includes a recently retired sergeant for Michigan State Police, a licensed pharmacist and healthcare supervisor for Walgreens, the former Speaker of the House Rick Johnson.

Johnson helped pass the new medical marijuana law while working as a lobbyist in Lansing. Johnson says he did not have a paying client at the time. Johnson sold his share of the lobbying firm to be eligible for the appointment.

The 5-member board will use recommendations from the state Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Department to distribute licenses to grow, transport, test and sell medical marijuana.
