Juke Joint - 2/7/2021

This week on "The Juke Joint" broadcast Robert Barclay noted the passing of Grady Gaines and Sherman Robertson. Gaines played tenor sax in the Texas Upsetters backing Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Gatemouth Brown and Joe Tex. Robertson was the guitarist in the zydeco bands of Clifton Chenier, Rockin' Dopsie and Terrance Simien before forming his own blues band. He also played some tunes by Van Morrison, Mississippi John Hurt, Chris Smither, AJ Crawdaddy and Joyann Parker.

Robert Barclay launched "The Juke Joint" broadcast on WCMU in April 1985. It has been a Sunday night fixture from 8:00-11:00 pm ever since. A devoted listener dubbed him the "Duke of Juke." He includes nearly a century's worth of blues history on his program including traditional and contemporary blues along with boogie woogie, soul music, rhythm & blues, zydeco and gospel music.
