CMU Jazz Lab 1

This episode of Central Stage features a variety of selections presented by CMU Jazz Lab I directed by Rob Smith. He talks with Sue Gamble and provides insight and information about the music that includes tunes by Pat Metheny, Bob Curnow, Neal Finn, Bob Mintzer and Lyle Mays.

Jazz has been a part of Central Michigan University since 1956, when the "Swingin' Chips" were organized. Students at CMU can participate in Jazz Lab I, Jazz Central, JazzBone ensemble and jazz percussion groups. Auditions for jazz bands generally take place the first week of classes.

Sue Gamble, Professor Emerita of music education, taught at Central Michigan University from 1978 to 2016. She also served as chair of the department of music, 1983-1990. She previously taught general music and choral music in grades 7-12 in central Pennsylvania.
