A new rule in Michigan has expanded the list of animals that are considered nuisance wildlife.
Beaver, cotton tail rabbits, muskrats, opossums, and four types of squirrels can now be trapped or killed on private property year-round without a license if they’re causing damage or are likely to cause damage.
According to the new natural resources order, the updated list will help reduce barriers that property owners encounter when facing conflicts with nuisance wildlife.
The Amendment says the DNR doesn’t expect a significant increase to wildlife harvesting and doesn’t predict a significant biological impact.
