The state’s fiscal year begins October first. But school districts, community colleges, public universities and local governments all have budget years that begin in two months. And they all rely heavily on state funding.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she expects the Legislature will pick up the pace – noting Democrats are in the majority for the first time in many years and have a crowded agenda.
“Things are moving quickly. I think they got more done in their first 100 days than probably n any legislature has gotten done in their whole term in the last couple of decades.”
Lawmakers have an anticipated 33-point-eight billion dollars in the state’s general fund and school aid fund to work with.
