Repealing right to work is one of the top priorities of the Legislature’s new Democratic majorities. The legislation would reverse the law adopted by Republicans in 2012 in a very swift and contentious session.
Governor Whitmer says she’s anxious to sign the repeal.
“I have made a promise to restore workers’ rights in Michigan. I have fought against the creation of this barrier in the first place."
The right-to-work repeal includes an appropriation, which under the Michigan Constitution would ensure it can’t be challenged by a voter referendum drive. The right-to-work law included an appropriation clause with similar immunity.
