A state Senate committee held a hearing today on gun violence.
The Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety Committee heard three hours of testimony. Much of it was from families and students affected by the Oxford High School and Michigan State University mass shootings.
Linda Watson is the mother of a wounded Oxford survivor and also of an MSU student who sheltered during the February 13th mass shooting.
“How could this happen? And then how could it happen again? Here we are again taking more steps backwards.” said Watson.
The committee is considering bills that include safe storage requirements, universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders. The hearings are supposed to continue next week.
