Former Charlevoix Police Chief Gerald Doan's retirement came during an ongoing sexual harassment investigation, according to a report made public by the city.
A police department employee accused Doan of repeated, inappropriate conduct.
Investigators found the accusations to be credible.
City manager Mark Heydlauff said the city acted quickly.
“Ultimately, however, it's difficult for me to assess the success of something like that when the victim and those who were hurt in this matter, were the ones that are affected," he said.
Investigators issued recommendations for the City of Charlevoix to improve its workplace harassment policy.
The former police chief is not currently facing legal action.
