Earlier this year, Southfield-based Beaumont Health and Grand Rapids-based Spectrum Health merged forming BHSH System. It’s the largest health system in the state with more than 64,000 employees.

Monday, it named Carlos Cubia Chief Inclusion, Equity, Diversity and Sustainability Officer. Cubia has spent most of his health care career serving as vice president with Covidien, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Most recently, he spent five years as Walgreens Boots Alliance senior vice president, global chief, diversity, equity and inclusion officer. With WBA, Cubia implemented a diversity and inclusion strategy for 400,000 employees in 17 countries.

In a news release, BHSH says, “In this role, Cubia will be responsible for inspiring and defining the systemwide transformational and innovative inclusion, equity (inclusive of health equity), diversity and sustainability strategies to drive the organization toward its goals of transforming health for the communities it serves, improving health and health equity, and fostering a culture of belonging.”

Cubia’s first day is June 30th.
