The Blue Lake wildfire that started Friday in the northern lower peninsula is now seventy-five percent contained.
An estimated twenty-two hundred acres in Montmorency and Cheboygan counties have been impacted by the fire.
That number is smaller than Sunday’s estimate due to better mapping and drone technology
The Michigan DNR says the wildfire’s containment doesn’t mean the fire is completely out, but that it’s unlikely to spread further.
There have been no life-threatening injuries and no major property damage reported from the blaze.
Only 12 structures were threatened and one outbuilding and one privately owned vehicle were damaged.
The cause of the wildfire is linked to a lightning strike that smoldered for several days before spreading into dry fuels.
Fire danger remains high in northern Michigan and the DNR will not be issuing burn permits until further notice.
