The family of Hana St. Juliana, a 14-year-old student who was killed in a mass shooting at Oxford High School in November, is filing a lawsuit against the school district. It alleges that the school was negligent in their handling of the accused shooter.
The high school sophomore was brought to the office after a pattern of troubling behavior in the days leading up to the shooting. One counselor at the school testified in court that he felt the individual was suffering from suicidal ideation.
The parents of the accused shooter were called to the school at the time, but the student was allowed to return to class after the parents refused to take him home.
Both the accused student and their parents are awaiting trial in Oakland County.
The lawsuit filed by the St. Juliana family also accuses Oxford Community Schools of trying to avoid accountability for the shooting.
