Petoskey has been chosen as one of three sites across the country for internationally renowned artist London Kaye’s next public installation.
Kaye is best known for yarn bombing outdoor objects, like trees and buildings, around the world. When the pandemic started, she launched her "Love Across the USA" tour where she crochets murals.
Kaye said the pandemic inspired her to launch the tour.
"We need to do more with crochet. I need to do something, we all need to do something as a unit and I was thinking something with COVID or something that we could do to show anything, the scale of it, the size of it," said Kaye.
The mural in Petoskey will help support peace in Ukraine.
Kaye said the design came from a 16-year-old Ukrainian boy currently living as a refugee in Poland.
"And so, he sketched out the design that we used for our murals, for these peace murals. And there was such an outpouring of people just wanting to participate, instead of doing one mural we ended up doing three," said Kaye.
Sections of the mural have been assembled by yarn lovers from across the world and at the Crooked Tree Art Center in Petoskey.
The other two Peace for Ukraine murals will be located in Los Angeles and Westminster Colorado.
