The Legislature has approved a $4.8 billion budget bill. It was adopted today with wide bipartisan majorities in both the House and the Senate and sent to Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
It includes big investments in water clean-up, broadband internet and infrastructure.
“This funding is going to be available across the state to all these communities to make sure they’re not going to have some extremely large tax on their citizens. This is really going to help out.” said Republican Representative Thomas Albert.
Albert also says that using federal COVID recovery dollars to pay for infrastructure could leave room to use a boost in state revenue to pay for a tax cut.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to approve all or most of the spending. The governor and legislative leaders announced the deal just hours before the Legislature convened to vote on the budget.
